The optional solo part gives someone the opportunity to shine, but you can perform it as additional part if you want.
It would be cool if the solo part was performed in a different location than the ensemble. Be creative. We need more creative people in this world.
I’ve programmed this arrangement with a horn club of over a dozen players in grades 6 thru high school. The 6th graders will need to look at it during a private lesson, but everyone else can sightread it if needed. Very playable arrangement and the composer had a fantastic beard.
