Theme and variations for horn quartet explores harmonic and rhythmic ideas based on “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
144 measures with eight movements in a variety of keys.
Play some of them, or skip a few movements depending on the concert.
Each part will need to lead during different variations. Includes some stopped horn and short solo passages for each part. Very playable – style and interpretation will be challenging. This piece would also work well with a large horn choir.
Conservative ranges (no bass clef), but strong technique is required.
I started writing this before the Covid-19 pandemic and have been editing and improving it ever since.
It’s fun to play. That’s my opinion.
